Department of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineers have played an important role in the manufacturing of products in the modern industrial world.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering aims to cultivate students as engineers and researchers who have not only a fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering, but also creative abilities in the various fields of engineering. For this purpose, this department places great importance on basic theories and their application to mechanical engineering in manufacturing.

Department of Electrical Engineering

Electrical engineering is a study to transfer and deliver electrical energy from all kinds of resources. It also includes to invent methods, devices, networks and systems to make information from electrical energy and to deliver and exchange the vast information quickly, and precisely. The lessons are electrical instruments, power electronics, information theory, digital circuits, semiconductor engineering, computer engineering, communication theory, and automatic controls, etc. Electrical engineering is the basis of industries and contributes to mature human life and cultures. To do these, the engineers need basic abilities to live in modern society and originalities. Therefore, many practices, experiments and semi-researches (for 4th and 5th grade students) are in the curriculums. So the students can get scientific method to plan, do and think, and can be sensitive to responsibility as powerful engineers.

Department of Architecture

We human beings have created various kinds of architecture. And we have to inherit sustainable society. Our society and lives are always with architecture. Safety, convenience, comfort and environmental preservation are necessary for architecture, and beauty and economy are indispensable for architecture.

Students of our department study fundamental subjects in the lower grades and practical subjects, such as architectural design, various experiments, graduation thesis and diploma design in the upper grades, and they can acquire basic faculty and technique on architecture. Staffs of our department bring up architects and engineers who have sensitivity and creativity and can contribute to the creation of human life and community.

Our department is the only one among colleges of technology in the Tohoku area.

Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Metals, polymers, fabrics, biofuel, "green" technology--materials are everywhere. All that we see and use is made of materials. This is why developing the environment-friendly materials is one of the most important and urgent technologies for the future of this planet.

The Materials Science and Engineering program at Miyagi National College of Technology is designed to give MSE students the critical foundation of knowledge to work in the field. Throughout our "experiment" emphasized program MSE students are trained to be the engineers on the cutting edge of new research and development in many fields.

Department of Design and Computer Applications

Recently, computers are extensively used in a wide variety of areas including the product design and telecommunication. It is essential for professionals to have a fundamental knowledge of these areas and the ability to make full use of highly evolved information facilities.

This is the background in which the Department of Design and Computer Applications was founded in 1993 as the very first organization in the national colleges of technology.

In our department, students are able to obtain a fundamental knowledge of engineering, basic art, advanced computer operations, and a sense of design, which are all indispensable for representing information correctly and effectively.

Liberal Arts (Humanities, Science and Mathematics)

Environmental destruction has created grave conditions on a global scale, and internationalization of the society is progressing rapidly. It is therefore important that engineering students have a global perspective. For this reason all of the students are taught not only the technical subjects necessary for engineering but also many subjects pertaining to the general culture.

Audiovisual aids and many experiments and activities are adapted to our various curricula. We also provide comprehensive exercises in fundamental mathematics. This is combined with physics and chemistry to the end of giving the students a chance to enjoy an organic and comprehensive educational experience. The duties of Liberal Arts faculty include the teaching of general subjects; the teaching of technical subjects such as applied physics, and computer science; and preparatory instruction for the graduation researches.
