Engineers are required to learn how to operate computers today. The Computer Center is equipped with the latest fast servers and terminal computers for information technology education and academic research in highly information-oriented society.
The educational computer system consists of two servers, which are available to all the students sitting in their offices or laboratories through the Campus Information Network. The terminal computers, where either Linux or Windows XP is selected according to the users, purpose, have the latest applications software, including word processor, spread sheet, database, presentation, painting, and drawing. They are used in various kinds of activities including information processing classes for the purpose of improving students, ability to make the best use of computers, such as information exchange and computer processing. Such programming languages as Fortran and C++ are also effectively used for students, thesis research.
The Campus Information Network, which connects all the computers in the campus through Gigabit Ethernet, is linked to the Internet via TOPIC (Tohoku Open Internet Community). Each student and staff, who is provided with his or her own mail account, can make use of E-mail and World Wide Web, etc. in order to make reports, exchange and release information, and do routine correspondence. As the hub of the Campus Information Network, the computer center, equipped with servers for the Internet and those for the LAN, provides with access right to academic information and information resources in the world.
